Does this mean that it auto selects the first (highest quality) stream based on that list, so it will always be h264?

In my experience with I.S.Adaptive on Kodi 18 Leia, yeah, it goes from top to bottom until finding a stream that works.
That's why, for videos that don't have any of the precious mp4/h264 streams, having it sort the webm/vp9 streams from smallest to biggest will at least let you watch something on 360 height, without desyncing with audio bc of slow software decoding.

Just make sure to re-do the changes after every update, because your tampered script will have been overwritten.

I was experiencing that a couple days ago on my rpi w/ libreelec. Did the update to 7.1.1.1 and created a new API key for the addon, don't know which one solved because I only tested once I was done and everything is work fine .. ish. I am annoyed of not being able to "play from here" in reverse as I always did, the ui doesn't even open the interface to choose from, straight ahead plays forward.

try this, create a new empty user on the addon. If you see that user is working, and most probably will, definitely opt to do one of the next options:

1nd option - if you just did the addon update or install keeping your settings, run the wizard (helps solving small issues that may appear with ie. different names on somes settings).
2st option (I would do this one) - try to uninstall the addon and manually delete everything related (or use the advanced functions to delete the databases and settings) and then do a fresh install, run the wizard (important to make sure everything that needs to be set is set) and then manually configuring any extra options you need. Let me know.

I found the problem. The player icons were disabled. It works, but no sound. Only the video is accelerated

On the 2x 4x etc options or the 1.1, 1.2 ... 2x? The first ones (the first picture I sent) are just for moving forward fast (no sound or at least I never heard it). On the other menu (image 2) there should be sound. For the sound to match the speed it will be high pitched. There is an option, I think in the "player" settings, where you choose at which speed and above the sound is to stop matching the video speed (above a certain speed it will be so high pitched it will be unintelligible, that option will prevent that); but if it is on a too low speed it may be muting the audio stream. Sorry to be so vague but I am not at home now, so I can't check.

I don't see where to choose the fast reading speed. By default I'm at 2x 4x. I changed my skin and I don't have the same thing as you in the photo.

nope...tried all but create new api keys, and it just gives that generic error msg over and over. For now, I'm staying on v7.1.0.1 as long as it works (it actually working fine, I only get some "fake buffering" on 4k60fps videos few secs after video start)

It brings me great pleasure to tell you that the minyoutube works, as far as search is concerned.
It just does not play anything because it needs credentials, which I am not willing to use in any addon.

You have to enable in player settings "sync playback to display".  Then you have access to player tempo down/up player controls.  Default range is 0.8 -- 1.5.  In advancedsettings you have an option

where you can adjust the upper tempo limit.  I don't know if by design, but if you set maxtempo to 2.0  then FF 2x will be with sound also.

The problem is that it adjusts my video to my display. And therefore creates stuttering.

Would be nice to see the player debug osd. Have you tried playing with cache settings to see if you can get it perfect? (not necessarily increase the buffer, I would try to increase slightly the read factor and give a small touch on the chunk size). I see you are HW decoding, I assume it is not supposed to buffer as in my rpi5 it doesn't, on my side the limitation is the screen that does not have some modes which sometimes causes the audio to lag a bit.
