Buffering: TVHeadend HTSP client streaming a local source on an Amazon Firestick
#1
Another buffering post, sorry!

I have the TVHeadend HTSP client (21.2.5) installed inside Kodi (21.1) PVR running on an Amazon Fire TV stick 4K 2nd Gen (Android TV 11.0.0) and am using it to stream from a TVHeadend server (4.3-2155) on my local network (running on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W).  I believe that the TVHeadend server/network is OK because I can stream from it happily to the Android TVHClient (the Robert Siebert one) on a Huawei tablet over Wifi, but I have been unable to get the TVHeadend HTSP client in Kodi to do the same: it buffers pretty much constantly whatever I try to watch (and the Firestick has an Ethernet connection to my router, not Wifi).

I have installed a Kodi add-on (team-crew) that allows me to tweak the Kodi settings so that I have ~100 Mbytes of video cache, everything buffered, and a read buffer factor of 5, I've fiddle with the TVHeadend HTSP client stream settings to increase the buffer from the default of 64 kbytes to 256 kbytes but none of my random changes have made a difference.

What might I be doing wrong?

The first thing you did wrong was installing a banned add-on (Crew). As long as this is installed, you won't get any support in here.

Modifying the video-cache can be done by Kodi default settings. There's no need to install such an add-on for this task.

Hi, and thanks for the swift response.  I had no idea this was a banned add-on: I was simply following the most recent advice I could find on a web-search as to how to resolve Kodi buffering issues, since I could find no relevant settings in the Kodi settings.

I have removed the add-on: would you be able to point me at advice concerning how I should adjust the buffering settings in Kodi?

Many thanks: I have made what I believe are the same or similar settings in the Kodi settings->services menu now: I don't seem able to post a picture here (this is displayed on a screen that the Amazon Fire TV Stick is connected to) but I have:

Buffer Mode: Buffer all network filesystems, including: SMB, NFS, etc.
Memory Size: 128MB
Read Factor: 5x

Chunk Size:  128KB

There is still buffering but it is now periodic rather than continuous: around scene changes mostly.  Are there any further recommendations for appropriate tuning?
