Release YouTube
Small corrections (I could not figure out how to edit post).

I downloaded beta *4* not beta 5, which does not exist as of yet (?). The releases are here: https://github.com/anxdpanic/plugin.vide...e/releases

I had been experiencing intermittent issues for months, which I have now resolved by installing the 7.2 beta 5 from the github page.

Sometimes the audio would not work. Sometimes the video would not play the first time. Sometimes I got "unknown error", and sometimes a message to please check the logs. When I checked the logs, I saw the message to please login to prove I am not a bot. But I already am logged in... So I found this forum and saw that people solved the problem by installing the 7.2 beta version. I wasn't sure how to do this at first, but found success by downloading the zip file to my computer, then using WinSCP to copy it into the /storage/downloads folder on libreelec, and then navigating through the kodi addons UI until I found "Install from ZIP."

It did not install two copies of the youtube app, it updated the app from 7.1.1.6 to the 7.2 beta. Before I tried this, I re-logged in to the API account, by first "Sign Out" in the app, and then followed instructions to sign in, making sure I was signing into the same google account as created the API key, way back when. I am not sure if it was necessary to sign out and back in.

After this, I was able to watch a long yt video (1.5 hours) continuously with subtitles and audio and no issues. I did not check if my rp4 was getting hot. I have my settings set to 720p h264 only, since my TV is pretty old.

Right now my only questions are
1. How to track whether the rpi4 is getting too hot?
2. Will the youtube app automatically update to the latest version when 7.2 is released?

Thank you to the developers -- this is truly amazing.

Hi,

I check the temperature connecting to the raspberry via SSH (Libreelec), this command will return you the temperature in real time:

vcgencmd measure_temp

In my case I checked it several times while I reproduce a youtube video at 1080p for a long time and even if one core is about 100% of CPU usage (the others are not) the temperature is always between 46º and 48º, so I suppose it's fine.

Is there a way to get "format 18" on kodi nowadays? For those who do not know, it is the only format (according to yt-dlp/youtube-dl) that provides video and audio in the same file and not in two seperate dash/hls streams.

So is there any other app for Kodi that will actually play youtube videos anonymously (http web scraping) right now?

Is this possible?  To create a stripped down version that only needs to download/play from a Youtube URL it is send?  Kinda like a casting device?
Would this avoid the API requirements all together?

Memories of an era...
https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:TubeCast

It was also working for a few other sites I think. I stopped using it once its cast v1 protocol became obsolete on most sites, youtube being the most known.

YouTube addon not working. I have installed Api key. I tried beta versions. And they don't work.

I spent the best part of a day regenerating keys etc and trying different things but in the end I needed to edit the ID string. Most tutorials say copy and paste the relevant fields, but for me this didn't work. See my previous post.  Also, when I paste the ID using Kore, it adds HTTPS://. Make sure this is edited out if you get this. Also check for leading/trailing spaces.

You also have to go through the Kodi App's UI to "Log In" to an account.  Did you do that too?

Hi,
i have the same problem. I deleted the old plugin (7.1.6), installed the beata version (7.2 beta 4), created new API keyse and entered them in the plugin.
After that i have signed in at google.com/devices two times which worked and the plugin shows me as singed in. Playing any video results in the message 'general error' and does not play anything.

Kodi.log shows:

ecuxixewus.kodi (paste)

I can't do any of this on an Android. You used to be able to edit settings and json files with your passwords etc. to manipulate things to work. Has anyone here tried to sign in using an Android and if so how did you do it. Thank You.

I use Android.
1. I have no problem with the double sign in. I just open a browser (I use Chrome sideloaded or Firefox) go to the specified address and enter the code, then return to Kodi, get the second code and repeat.
2. To edit "settings and json files with your passwords etc. to manipulate things to work." I use the Kodi file manager from the gear icon. I add a source pointing to my Download folder and copy the files to there. Then I edit the copies in a text editor (outside Kodi, but in Android - I use QuickEdit+) return to Kodi and copy the edited files back - again using the Kodi file manager with the Android Download folder on the left and the destination on the right.

Yes, Android is a pain with the security trying to prevent access to files you want to edit, but as long as you work inside Kodi, you can get it done by moving copies to the Download folder and then copying them back.

I created new OAuth and secret ID's only and leave the API key like it was.
The type is changed in "TVs and Limited devices", before it was "Desktop".

I think that should work, no ?
Input of ID's and login in Kodi is for later  Sleepy
