there is a itoy kinda thing for the xbox, atleast video chat is coming to the xbox. it was demoed at the e3 show.

ferrago has a story on it, and judging by their pictures it looks like the cam will be connected through a regular gameport. perhaps this can be modified in some way to allow other types of input, like a tv signal Smile

´but i doubt this device is the right one to record something. look at the cam from sony (and i guess the xbox version won' be much better). i don't know the specs, but when i saw it on some demos the pic was ugly and skippy.

seems like this work has stopped..?

this is the only feature, in my opinion, that the xbmc lacks in order to make it a stand alone media box.

an external tuner / pre-prosessor that communicates with xbmc would be the bomb!

see also http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin....;t=6587 it does use a pc as middleware, but it's free and shouldn't be hard to implement.

since mythtv is a client/server application, is there a technical reason why we cannot implement a full mythtv client on the xbox and work with a mythtv server running at the backend?

no, but both those are off-topic, (same for snapstream or even mediaportal, all possible but not what this specific topic thread is about).

hi,

what we need is at first very simple start-record and stop-record function, that write the video stream to a defined folder on the xbox hdd not more. the rest is very easy..

there is a lot projeckts running this.. like, dreambox-tv, dbox2 or the mytheatre [pc].. all running with python scipting.

and the implementation of video record function should be the same like the southcast rec function in the music section.

and the pvr is start record and stop record Wink

@xlash, you haven't abandond this (your) project have you?, hope you will post something soon, if even just to say you taken a break Huh

btw, stumbled onto this piece of news (well, it's not news anymore) about a hybrid dvb-t / analog tv-tuner from philips:
philips introduces a world first: a hybrid dvb-t/analog multi-standard front-end module with fm radio (link)
(philips fmd1216me is designed as a hybrid module. it supports dvb-t and analog multi-standard tv system + fm radio)

just a thought,

if someone had an anywhereusb "usb over ip" hub and the anywhereusb sdk could you use it to create support for usb devices over ip for the xbox?

could you then use this device to control the hauppauge wintv-pvr usb2?...or any other usb device for that matter?

http://www.digi.com/products/usb/anywhereusb.jsp

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/...rusb2.html

...just saw the price of the anywhereusb hub. $260 usd is a bit steep!

thanks gamester17

looks like the project has stalled.

building a tv2lan box from scratch is going to take time and money...and better planning and management than most people can donate from their free time.

i mereley wanted to discuss an alternative to a purpose built box for use in a pvr solution.

why not look at the possibilities of something that already exists?

no hardware development costs!...isn't that the whole foundation of xbmc?

by using a usb over ip concentrator the possibility is to allow users to choose any flavour of usb capable tv capture devices. analogue, dvb-t, dvb-s, or even multiple external capture devices for those who have cable and free to air tv.

xbmc is then using ip not usb to control usb devices

i don't believe this is off topic. it is a hardware solution that fits with xlash's first post

Quote:1-  the xbox is connected on the lan. the coaxial entry of television is connected on an apparatus which will seek the frequency band of the necessary station (selected remotely), digitizes it and transmits it out on udp package on the lan.  the xbox, via xbmc, will be able to activate and close this numerisator, to choose the station to be listened, to read the stream and to display it.  xbmc and its new module itv, to be conceived thereafter, will manage all the functionalities to be established.

the xbmc team do a great job, and i will put your language down to having to deal with the many dumb questions and dumb posts you must receive in a day.

have a nice day

@CxH, if you read this entire thread you know that you're still off-topic. so if this other thread (link) doesn't either fit; create a new one.

ok. ok. i will look to take the usb concentrator to a different forum....paix gamester

currently visiting malaysia and was flicking through the local english tabloid....and to my surprise found the following on the nexperia

http://202.186.86.35/audio....diofile

the dev time is particularly interesting 4 months to go from drawing board to mass production. looks like the nexperia is designed to be adaptable and flexible and phillips seems to have it as a marketing priority.

may be a singapore/malay based company might be better suited for development of the tv2lan box.

pm me if the link is bad i will scan the article when i get back to oz and post it somewhere

fyi: i'm a long time c/++ programmer and i have some spare time over the next two months. i've been a long time xbmp/xbmc user and decided to contribute my time to this project.

adding pvr functionality to xbmc is my primary goal for the next couple of months.

to that end, i've read the thread and have a few ideas i'd like to contribute.

firstly, why are you thinking about build this "digitalizer" box? i've currently got a functioning xbox based pvr system built around xbox-linux, mythtv and a usb tuner. instead of totally reinventing the wheel, why not build a client for mythtv into xbmc and run the capture server on an xbox using xbox linux and a couple of the usb tuners? i use the hauppage (sp?) usb pvr and it works well. i have two of them connected via xbox controller -> usb cables. they have a built in mpeg2 encoder, so the cpu load for handling two streams is well within the xboxes abilities. based on my results, four encoders should be manageable with a single "server" xbox.

in further support of my implementation of the "digitalizer", the cost of this solution is very reasonable.

xbox: $100 @ pawn shop
tsop mod: $.05 worth of solder
200 gb hdd: $200
2x wintv pvr usb: $300 new online or less on ebay/etc...

i don't think there is any other way to implement the server more cost effectively. please advise.

as far as writing an xbmc client for mythtv goes, i don't think the job would be horrendously difficult. the hardware encoder in those hauppage boxes outputs good ole mpeg2 video. of course, xbmc already supports mpeg2 decoding and playback. i've explored the mythtv protocol and it isn't terribly complicated. i think the biggest issue would be handling all of the features that myth allows. (program guide, etc...)

the only other hurdles that i can envision are myth's dependance on mysql and the need to develop a clean interface/configuration tool/installation tool for the server xbox.
the dependance on mysql shouldn't be that difficult. they have an o/s client class that should be easy to port. as for making installation/configuration/maint. of the (linux) server side manageable for the average non-linux savvy xbmc user, i don't think a user friendly installer would be terribly difficult to write.

i hope my input hasn't stepped on anyones toes. since i've already got the requisite hardware to implement the solution as i've described it, i plan to develop my solution whether i receive any help/support from xbmc developers. i have thought my plan out very thoroughly and think i have the best available solution. if any of you have any input, suggestions or would like to assist in my efforts; i welcome your emails and would be grateful for any positive advice or suggestions.

thanks in advance,
