Same problem as before: with deinterlacing I get jumpy video and without it I get motion blur - this time I thought I'd add the info from the video quality overlay.

On SD channels with the video diagnostic up:

With nvidia-ion Optimized for deinterlacing I get

At the moment it's not set automatically, so you'll have to set the path to the icon manually for each channel. But it is possible.

I've played with all the video playback options and it currently still is really choppy even with "Sync Playback to Display" unchecked. The error margin goes crazy on the videos and occasionally crashes. Maybe if I get it to crash and include the crash log that would be helpful to diagnose the problem.

Have you checked your TVHeadend logs? If those say something about "discontinuity" as well, then your cable signal might be a bit low. I had the same symptoms a while back and in the end solved them by checking all the coax cables and finding and fixing a loose connector.

i get those errors due to a buffer problem with tvheadend streams and xbmc. The AQ% and PQ% go very low and cause sound droputs and video glitches. Somebody else posted here recently saying they had the same problem. Hopefully something can be done about it (had this problem with my ion pc's ever since i started using tvheadend over a year ago). Think it might be just a problem with non free to air channels.

So I played with my cable wires to get signal quality over 80%. However, AQ and VQ are both under 10% on SD channels (AQ hovers close to 1%) and AQ and VQ get up to 30-40% on HD channels.

You only have the AQ and VQ problem with non-free-to-air channels? Because all the channels I get are free-to-air and they all have about the same AQ and VQ.

I saw your note in the code that you implemented the "Skip first I-frame" only for HD H264 content. That would explain why HD video has better AQ and VQ and why deinterlacing works for me only with HD video, right?

Is there a reason why something similar couldn't be implemented for SD mpeg video (or for all tvheadend/pvr streams) to fix the buffering problem?

It could be happening with free channels just haven't noticed it/haven't being watching long enough. Don't watch much live tv due to the audio dropouts.

skipping the first I-frame is just a little workaround.

the buffer underruns can have multiple causes, eg. your backend is too busy to put out data quick enough or your net is slow. we have to buffer up a bit before starting to play to really fix most of these problems.

I finally dared tonight to install your XBMC+PVR on my HTPC. I've added your master branch to my sources. Removed my old .xbmc dir and installed xbmc-standalone. I was quite happy to see XBMC come up fine after that.
Three things I noticed:
- The XBMC version I have now is pre Dharma RC2. It misses the LCD option in the system settings, so I had to workaround that by playing with the AdvancedSettings.xml. Is the Dharma-PVR more up to date?
- I must say I've never seen XBMC crash that often as while configuring this version. Is that due to the Master being unstable or is the PVR-addon just still quite unstable? For now I've decided to see if in actual use it will also prove unstable in which case I would have to revert to the rock stable version I was using before.
- So far I haven't found that pretty looking EPG that I saw in some screenshots. What do I have to do to get that EPG?
