Most of us don't want to playback ISO using PlayDisc option, because we want it to automatcally playback by clicking on it. We are too lazy to manually create drives for every ISO file.

MP3, i use it only with windows media player or with the musci player integrated in XBMC

JPEG, well i want to read jpeg, but there's the module "pictures" inside XBMC, so no i don't need it in mpc-hc

About MPC-HC and bluray, does MPC-HC + bluray we can use bistream audio to let my receiver decode it? I didn't think about that first

Other question, when i launch MPC-HC + a bluray, my ffdshow and madvr show in taskbar, does it mean there are utilized too with bluray the enhanced bluray quality? I don't see that much difference with powerdvd o tmt 5 (but maybe it's bcause i don't have them side by side)

Make life easier, I'm recommending XBMC for Music, Photo and all other lower video format (avi, DVD, mp4, etc). The rules below allows XBMC to do all the above:

You can bitstream HD audio with MPC-HC, and the instruction on how to setup FFDshow is in step #7 of the very first post.

Here is another external player code for MPC-HC, TMT5 and PD11 (follow the simple steps below):

1. Download- AnyDVD HD (you have 14 days free trail)
2. Download- Virtual CloneDrive (it's free)
3. Download- XBMC 11.0 "Eden" Beta 1 (if you want to use TMT5 or PowerDVD11 to playback everything, you can skip step #4 to #9 and go straight to TMT5 and PowerDVD11 codes below.)
4. Download- DirectX End-User Runtime
5. Download- MPC-HC (it's free) and (your TMT5 or PowerDVD11)
6. Download- FFDshow (it's free and you needs it for bitstreaming with MPC-HC)
7. Follow these simple steps- (configure FFDshow and MPC-HC)

8. Download these XBMC external player codes (Playercorefactory, PlayDisc, PlayBDMV and PalyISO)
a. place the files in AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata folder
b. make sure that the directory locations of all MPC-HC/TMT5/PowerDVD or whatever player you decide to use matches the directory inside IsoPlayer/BdPlayer/Playercorefactory codes.

Blueray - Can you help with some basic questions on the above?

I only plan on playing mkv blue ray files that I have already created from the original disc using DVDFab and Handbrake. These files will include the DTS-HD or TRUE-HD streams already. I assume I can play back these mkv files in MPC-HD via XBMC without the need for VirtualDrive and AnyDVD right? I mean the encryption is already broken at this point. But as I understand it, an mkv file with an embedded HD (DTS-HD, TRUE-HD) stream will not work directly from XBMC (dharma or pre-eden)

However, as I understand it, I can use Pre-Eden to play Blu Ray discs directly from my Blu Ray Drive, I just lose the HD streams but can still stream basic 5.1 audio such as DTS and AC-3. Correct?

Now if I want to also watch blue-ray discs from my blue-ray drive (with HD streams), that's when I need 1) AnyDVD along with MPC or; 2) TMT5/PowerDVD? Or do I need anydvd for use with all external players?



Sorry for all the newb questions, I am just wanting to make sure I understand all these things.

I'm far from a specialist, but i think:

1) As far as you created a mkv from a bluray (or whatever) you don't need anydvd ou dvdfab passkey (those software are for passing through protection from original DVD an bluray). So if you intend in playing some original bluray with your bluray player, once in a time, you'll need one of these software (there is a free-lite version of DVDfab passkey )

2) If you use an external player (MPC-HC, PowerDVD or TMT) from XBMC for your blurays or mkv with HD audio you WON'T have any problem for the bitstream HD audio. Only the internal player of XBMC can't pass the signal.

3)You'll just need your "virtual drive" in caser you want to read a DVD or bluray ISO.

....But maybe somebody will correct me if i'm wrong but i'm quite sure i'm not.

Thanks a lot. So if I want to read the contents I need passkey but to just play the movie via an external player I won't need anything or do I still need passkey or something equivalent? I can't imagine that MTM5 or PowerDVD can't play a BluRay disc without extra software. But not sure about the free MPC-HD.

PowerDVD and TMT5 can obviously read an (official) bluray without this kind of softwares (it must! for the price it cost hehe)

The case you'll need anydvd or dvdfab passkey are:

1) you want make a copy of your bluray and for that, you'll need to pass the protections of the bluray

or

2) You want to read your bluray within MPC-HC, and, as far as that is not officialy made for reading bluray like powerdvd or tmt, you'll need to pass those protections to make it readable by mpc-hc.

3) It allows you that, when you launch your bluray, you don't have to watch all the promotional videos, trailers etc. You arrive directly to the main menu (which is very nice!)

I don't think your bluray will play in mpc-hc if you don't have one of this program installed. But liked i said, there's a free version (lite) of dvdfab passkey, so go on and make a test, launch a bluray from mpc-hc (latest versions), if it tells you that it can't render or read the file, try installing dvdfab passkey and NORMALLY you could read it.

At first i was using XBMC + TMT5 for the bluray + MPC-HC for the other videos but i faced some problem with dual screen and TMT5 + i don't know why but i still had all the trailrs before the menus, so i tried PowerDVD11 for the bluray instead of TMT5, it was working fine (i prefer tmt5 but i go for the one that works with XBMC), then today i thought it would be easier to have MPC-HC for everything that is "videos", so now i use it to for bluray within XBMC. And it works perfectly! Ok you don't have the bluray animated menu, but who cares, now i launched the bluray, and the bluray starts by itself the movie (like in theater) no pre-selection in the menu...and if i want to change the chapter, language or subtitle i can stil ldo it in MPC-HC menu.

You need MPC-HC for:
1. Bitstreaming HD audio
2. Playback blu-ray disc on BD-ROM (if your blu-ray disc is encrypted, you'll need AnyDVD HD or DVDFab Passkey to decrypt it)
3. Playback ISO (you'll need Virtual Clone Drive to mount/unmount it)

XBMC Beta 1 is capable of playback everything else with standard audio!

Alright so I upgraded to Eden Beta 1. Actually deleting 10.1 caused insane problems resulting in my reformating the drive and starting over. So I have a fresh install of Eden.

When I put a BlueRay disc in my drive it will not play within Eden. I downloaded MPC-HD and passkey lite and still cannot play the disc either. Am I missing something here? This is on Win 7 Home Premium.

I tried this with both Saving Private Ryan and Terminator 3.

Well after I rebooted the computer (after installing MPC and passkey lite) and now I can play bluerays natively in XBMC (obviously without HD audio) and also play from MPC. So dumb me for not assuming a reboot was not needed.

i'm thinking of trying this at least for my 1080p SBS films that won't play the way i want them in xbmc. does xbmc still do the auto rate switching or would I need autofrequency for that so that it switches the correct rate for reclock?

and does this have dvd's playback through mpc-hc or through xbmc? they don't want to playback in xbmc for me, menu never comes up.

You can give it a try. If you want to use MPC-HC with XBMC PlayDisc option, you can use this rule in Playercorefactory- (<rule protocols="[COLOR="blue"]bd|dvd" player="Disc_Player"/>[/COLOR])
