I am planning on using XBMC as an OS.

Can you install it or do you have to use a live CD/USB every time?

When using the live CD is there anyway to run certain programs like SABnzbd as well? Because I didn't really like the experience of using XBMC inside Windows, as I wont use 99% of Windows.

you can install it to a drive.

not sure it has SABnzbd i think openelec does - might be worth looking into
