u can use right out the box like it is or can be taken apart and can be installed internally, i do this for my mini budget htpcs where they want power on off feat.
or can be used with any remote that has ir learning or just ir for the power button
like if you wanted a remote with keyboard like these

get the cheapest one around 12$ and pair it with better remote around 20-25
and you have remote with media functions and keyboard that powers on from cold boot for around 30-40$ depending how u do it or cheaper
and also on everyone i did only the power button powers it on aswell not any button but cant say it will like this for everyone or on every system but it does for me
now if we could just get a good all rf remote with keyboard and media key that works and has ir power button for reasonable price
would be golden .... tired of these dumb air mouses

Looking for a bit of advice, I've got a CIR Head ASRock but I'm not sure the best module to get, the ASRock remote seems no longer available and I can't find an cheap RC6 USB dongles in the UK (I am probably looking up the wrong thing)
I want to power on using my Logitech Harmony Ultimate, so I assume that I need get power supplied to USB ports even when the machine is off.
Do one of my front USB ports need to have the cable cross over the CIR Header to turn it into a IR port for a RC6 Dongle, then when powered I can use a profile on my harmony to power up and use the machine?
Or should I get something like the Streacom/Wesena IR module, I was thinking I could mount it behind my case on one of the PCI slots and use my Harmonys Hub's IR Blasters to control it from behind.
If I went this method has anyone got any confirmation that the Streacom devices aren't unique IR and any signal can get it to power one. as per this review -http://www.quietpc.com/st-irpb?gclid=CIHM1JrYtr8CFYzKtAodsysA7Q

I really want to get a CIR receiver for it but have come to the conclusion that they are just not available in the US. I've seen people say there are guides for making one yourself online, but I can't find one. Anyone know a good resource? I did find this: http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2012...ified.html but it makes me paranoid because its simple with no resistors or capacitors needed. Thoughts? I know there's the interset solution, but I'd rather spend less money than that and also take advantage of the CIR header instead of splicing into my PSU's wires.
