speeding up the Update Library operation
#1
Hi folks, I'm just wondering what the best approach to this is.

I've a NAS server (synology) with SABnzbd and SickBeard running.
Separately I have a win7 Acer Revo with XBMC. At startup XBMC searches for TV, Movies and Music updates (ie the new files on the NAS).

It take a few minutes to finish updating the library. I only turn on the XBMC box when I want to watch something, but I'm wondering is there any way I can speed up the updating process? I guess I could use file mode, but I do like library mode as it is wife proof.

An SSD would speed up the writing to your database and everything else.

You could try setting up say Movies1 and Movies2 folders. Put your stuff in Movies1 that you plan to keep unchanged once added to Library mode. Set this source to Exclude from library updates scans. Use Movie folder 2 for your new editions and maybe movies you might not keep once viewed. That way your update scans have less material to go through.
For TV and music - rinse and repeat.
