[Windows] Unable to connect to remote server
#1
Hi XBMC-users,

I'm having some problems with it, when I start XBMC I'm getting the error "Unable to connect to remote server". I've searched various topics about this, all concluding problems with TVDB etc., this ain't the case with me, because it also can't connect to the server for any add-ons.

I have tried everything that I could come up with, installed stable as well as nightly builds, added it to the Windows firewall, removed all settings. But it's not working.

I'm running it in portable mode, and here are the last lines of mine log file:

Code:

I would guess you have some problem with the Windows networking. If you open a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /all

what do you get? Can you post the output here.

Does the notice ask if you wish to continue anyway? I get this from time to time. I select yes and everything seems to work anyway.
My first HTPC build
My UnRaid Server
Kingston rebates and ASUS warranties are WORTHLESS FRAUDS

Don´t bother to look at your system to find the problem - happens as well on my OS/X and openelec (Linux)-machines.

I think this is an issue when trying to connect the movie and tv db...don't think this is directly an XBMC issue...

My dad gets this with his machine, whereas I don't with mine. I set up his machine in my house, it all worked and downloaded everything fine. He then took it to his and he gets the can't connect message every time.

I've been on the phone to him and he's tried to scan in new additions to his database, error. I do it at the same time and connect to theTVdb without any problem.

we use the IMDB scraper for films.

We've been through each of our settings to try and make them identical, but the problem still persists with his machine.

He's not particularly technical, so he doesn't know what to do. I've given all the suggestions I can, looked on here, but it is still happening.

So any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

I once turned on proxy option under network (by accident Smile , had all strange things with network and problems with weather, subs and other addons... Oo
it could be firewall on pc or on router.

find out the ip address of the scraper server and run a ping/traceroute from a command prompt to that address. that will tell you where the problem lies.

if the ping/traceroute doesn't error or time out, its a problem with your dads xbmc install. if it does, then its a problem in the host pc networking stack or the isp he's with is blocking that site (highly unlikely) or a firewall issue.

For some reason, installing the Youtube addon fixed the update problem for me. Let me know if this works for you.

It appears that it fixed the problem I was just going to post about also. If I used the TMDb scraper, I would get the can not connect error, but it was fine using IMDB. Now if we could just get a decent method of knowing what movies were showing in the library and what wasn't. That area is a total JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anyway to suppress this message? I get it from time to time and it doesn't mean anything, I click yes and it continues
