to make life easier for you and reduce the amount of OS updates and management etc.
I would seriosuly advise you to look at openelec, it is baiscally a cut down version of a linux OS and installs the base OS and XBMC within 5 minutes. After that it boots straight into xbmc and your ready to go.
I am using it currently on 2 Acer Revo's and its been great.
