AudioEngine is the future for XBMC, and will be in the nightlies shortly after Eden's release. HD audio will be part of that, so it is in team XBMC plans. Not sure what you're going on about!
I think in the eyes of team XBMC, anything else (even if it is platform specific) is a temp solution, therefore won't make it into master/nightlies. Basically, it's support for all platforms or no platforms.
DSPlayer is slightly different as it brings more than just hd audio. There's a pull request for that in progress (https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/591), however i have no idea if team XBMC will chance stance on it.
