The font issue was - not - solved using the new ISO. Instead I used the "DPI" hint in the link I just posted above your reply. For that you will need to edit the "xorg.conf" by hand.
Option "DPI" "96 x 96 "

Fun fact : If you make a typo xbmcbuntu won't start anymore. You need to start in recovery mode to fix it
