Allwinner A10 : Is XBMC ported to MALI-400MP ?
#61
EDIT: Never mind. It's either an error, a scam, or it will catch on fire within 30 seconds.

Think we can get 100 people together who might want a $21 A10 tablet? I'd seriously be interested in organizing something if anyone else is interested.

That's too good to be true. The seller has no feedback at all.

Yeah, the more I was reading into his sales and other offers, the less confidant I became. He has another one just like that for a "Windows 7" tablet that works out to $21/p. No way.

If anyone does see something that might be real for sub-$50 and needs to go in on a bulk order, feel free to buzz me. I think we could easily get a large group of people in on it, even if it was just for development investigation.

Just noticed that both the Mele A1000 and Mele A2000 are on dealextreme.com:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mele-1080p-...-sd-119913
$92.60

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mele-a2000-...4gb-131566
$98.20

That's only $5.60 difference between the two for the additional 2GB of internal memory.

The only difference between A1000 and A2000 is the appearance. The internal hardware is exactly the same. I have this confirmed by multiple sources.

Someone is selling A1000 on aliexpress for $78 including delivery you may try that.

A1000 has 2GB flash on-board, A2000 has 4GB flash on-board. Other than that, yes, exactly the same.

Found a coupon in the comments section of the Dealextreme link. "5MAY8199" will take the price of the A1000 down to $87.98

I could not find the vender on aliexpress that was selling for $78.

Mele A1000 & A2000 differences;
The only difference between the A1000 and A2000 is the case. The A2000 does NOT ship with a SATA disk case. They both have a 4 GB NAND chip, allthough the Android version on the A1000 only partitioned the first half of it. As soon as the linux drivers are ready, you can format the NAND to whatever you want and utilise the full 4GB.

As the A2000 is more expensive and does not ship with a SATA disk case, the A1000 might be the better option.

Mele A1000 from Tom Cubie;
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/532...alers.html
Tom Cubie is a chinees Allwinner employee who buys the A1000 around the corner at the Mele factory and sells it on Aliexpress with only a couple of bucks profit. If you contact him he might slide in a free USB serial console cable for free. (did it for me). Shipment might be a bit funny, but he stated he uses Sweden post and they ship everywhere for around 16 bucks. Just select china post, if that is not available for your country he advised to use a nearby country which is supported and then state the proper address into the remarks.

@gimli,
Good to see you onboard. Wink

I`m gonna get my A2000 tomorrow! It's gonna arrive in NZ!

Was wondering, if i get Ubuntu to Run, can i just install xbmc using the XBMC install tutorials to Ubuntu? Or that will definately not work at all?

possibly if there is a package compiled for arm, but you will not be able to do too much without support for the mali 400 gpu.

Give it time guys, the future will tell.

A lot of different people are working on all different aspects to get linux working on the A1X devices. Most developers just recently got their device to test with (mele a1000/a2000).

The Mali driver are almost as good as done. That means, in working condition utilizing the open and closed sources from ARM itself. The better solution using the Lima driver is not yet in working condition. (because there is not yet a lima driver)

A lot of people acknowledge that the A1x concept is a strong concept and devices are popping up every where from small STB types to USB dongle types and offcourse a HUGE amount of different tablets.

Every one of them can basically dual boot into linux from sd-card.

As soon as XBMC (or any other piece of software for that matter) is working on this ARM device, the ARM hardware database is increased by multiple times !

But once again. A lot of different people are working on all different aspects and it is all WIP. Al you need is a bit of patience.

Tom Cubie wrote a few hours ago about a development on XBMC:

Quote:yes, i am pushing it now, ask them to release the hardware decode lib and sample code.
ebsi4711, a XBMC developer has already got the XBMC gui running on mele box, the remaining
is to get the hardware decoder work, which needs some documents.

Is that work from ebsi4711 available publicly?
