XBMC crashes after scanning for new content
#1
Hi all, I recently bought an ATV2 already jailbroken with XBMC. Unfortunately, i've run into a problem. I have a windows SMB share setup and I'm able to access all my files on my PC, However, when I update my library and attempt to add them to the video library, all goes well, for a while. I can add up to just a little over 100 movies, until eventually I'll add a new movie then update my library and it will say "scanning for content", then once the bar reaches the end, XBMC will crash and go back to the ATV menu. It doesn't matter what file it is. I have a lot of movies i've tried it with. It seems as if XBMC is having trouble handling too many movies, because I never have a problem whenever my movie library is small (100 or less, for example).

Another problem I've seemed to have, regardless of how many movies have been added to the library, whenever I update my library once and it adds the movies, if I update it again to add some more, immediately after i select update library, XBMC will crash back to the ATV menu. Once I update my library, I have to restart XBMC to update it again without it crashing (unless i experience the crash I explained earlier when 'scanning for new content')

Here is my report:

Platform: Apple TV 2
Version of iOS/ATV: 5.0.2 (4250)
XBMC Build version and date compiled: Git:20120331-ebfd899 (Compiled: Apr 1 2010)
Install Method: I'm not sure how XBMC was installed. I bought my ATV2 already jailbroken.

Here are the logs for the problem explained in the first paragraph:

If you're in need of any more information, or if i've provided the wrong information, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

You have firecores media player installed. It is incompatible with XBMC and leads to that crash. Deinstall it or update it to the latest version from firecore (firecore stated that they had fixed the incompatibility with their last update - no idea if this really is fixed or not.).

Thank you so much. I removed the media player, and it fixed all of my problems! I do have one remaining question. With my movie library being so large, I find that "scanning for new content" tends to become slower as I add more and more movies. I assume it has to scan through the entire library each time. Is there a way to speed the scan up? Thanks again.

The quickest way to speed it up is to have less movies Smile You can update individual sources instead of the whole library or there are add ons that schedule library updates so you don't wait for them, or you could just do it when you have finished watching.

The scanning process only looks for files/directories that have changed so it should scale reasonably well. There are people here with thousands of movies in their library.
