I've just installed and used XBMC and I'm wondering why the name of such great project is so enigmatic?

Maybe it should be changed to something more user/ear-friendly? I told my friends about this software and almost always everyone misspelled it - XMBC, XMBS, XBMS, XBMC...

Almost everything is brilliant in this project. It's looks great (in contrast to the most software available on linux), it's user-friendly, it works with python. OK it crashed few times on my Ubuntu 12.04 64bits, but I'd love to have TV with this software. I'll probably prepare my own HTPC, when I buy my apartment.

I'd like to discuss with you guys. Do you think the NAME should be changed or not?

Fun fact: XBMC originally stood for eXcellent Boobs Media Center, and was only used for porn.

I know it's hard to convince team to change it, but if there are more people not satisfied with this name, maybe such topics will lead them to just think about it.

For me the name isn't as clear as it should be, for new users and I think it could get much more users with just better name.

No offence, but "Xbox Media Center" was quite good, of course it was related to MS's Xbox, so maybe good it was changed.

I just want to point something obvious, what disturbed me the most at the beginning of use. It's not to offend anyone it's just suggestion.

I swear - it doesn't matter how many users have problems with remembering 4 characters. This will always be XBMC.

Suggesting a name well known name that has been there for a long time is more silly.

Why not change the name Apple or Microsoft because I find those names just plain stupid.
and what's up with that name Google ?

(read this as sarcastic comments. in short better get your friend to take some lessons to learn them how to pronounce four lessons)
