to speed up...things aren't what they used to be/previously, everything was better.

This isn't necessary any more. In old RS API the thumbnail needed an additional HTTP lookup just to get the URL to the recording image. This additional HTTP lookup was very slow, so A600 limited this to 20 and cached the results. Since RS 1.24 (or so) RS does provide the URL directly, so I've removed this.

I'm sorry but this isn't really a bug of the plugin. XBMC should either implement paging so you can only see about 100 recordings or you should just delete/move some recordings. >5000 recordings + images are just too many for the slow raspi.
