Req [ADDED in Frodo] PVR Timer / Recording Conflict Manager
#1
Hello All,

With PVR support now included in mainline XBMC (September 2012), this feature request is to enhance the PVR function of XBMC. This feature request is to help the user identify and manage recording / timer conflicts.

Recording / timer, conflicts occur whereby a user has requested to record multiple channels over the same or over-lapping point in time and the computer's resources can't accommodate. For example if a computer has two DVB adapters and a user decides to record a programme on channels 1, 2 & 3, which all start at 20:00hrs, only two programmes will record (NB: ignoring multiplex "MultiRec"; recording multiple channels on one multiplex). The three programmes are in conflict with one-another and the user or PVR backend must manage the conflict.

To name only two of many PVR backends - VDR (via vdr-plugin-epgsearch) and MythTV (via MythTV Frontend) have capabilities to check for recording / timer conflicts as the user schedules them. VDR and MythTV offer a conflict management view whereby recordings in conflict can be identified. Moreover, they offer the user options to resolve conflicts (http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Scheduling_Re...#Conflicts) if they are not happy with the choice the PVR software has made.

Currently, XBMC-->Live TV-->Timer view lists the upcoming timers. However, all timers are tagged as either Status; Recording Active or Enabled.

Short-term, it would be great if timers could be tagged as Satus "In Conflict", where reported to be in conflict by the backend, so that users could manually manage the conflicts.
Long-term, it would be fantastic if a management view or expansion to the "Edit Timer" context menu could give the user common conflict resolution options, such as record a later showing (i.e. record the +1 channel alternative "ITV1 +1"), use alternative DVB adapter, allow re-record in future (i.e. if the programme happens to appear again in the epg in two months time set automatic timer), etc, etc.

Many thanks,
Guy.
