I guess because Legend of the Galactic Heroes has never been officially released in English, AniDB doesn't recognize that title as being "Official", maybe?

You are on the right track with .nfo files, though.

If you make a tvshow.nfo with:

<tvshow>
    <title>Legend of the Galactic Heroes</title>
</tvshow>
aid=584

XBMC will use the "aid=584" part to run the scraper, but then overwrite what it returns with whatever is in the xml part of the .nfo file.
