It would defeat the low power, low heat, small footprint, etc idea......

Since there is no expansion slot in your S197-H80 case, there isn't much you can DIY to improve performance......

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

The DIY is that I am building them, not Zotac, with whatever parts I want. How is that not DIY?

And when did I say I was looking to improve performance. Right now I am just testing how it performs as-is with an eye towards a low-cost Atom/Zacate alternative and thought it'd be nice to report my findings to the community. I have no plans to stick a GPU in it -- it has Intel 2000 HD graphics which is sufficient for most HTPC tasks.

So far, so good here. No lockups. No BIOS issues. I definitely want a fan with lower RPMs.

FYI, it also doesn't blink the LED when it sleeps which is a nice bonus.

I still have more testing to do and we'll see how it does over the next week. I am not ready to declare victory yet but so far it's promising.

No Dougie i was refering to the reviews on the zotac, sorry for the miss understanding. Also i was the one who mentioned that it was nice for a DIY and if needed there would be a possibility to add a GPU to this board.

Okay.....! Since you replied to a Zotac posting being"better?", I thought that you meant DIY to improve performance.

Good luck with your low power HTPC then....!

I never said the Biostar board was better than the Zotac. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment directed toward the Zotac being pre-built vs. the board I've tested being something you can buy and DIY. That's why the post has a Wink.

All I've done in this thread is test it out this board and post my results so far. I don't see why it has to devolve into another thread cr@p. This had been fun...

Hey Dougie I don't understand why people have to make such a fuzz about things.

I am really looking forward on your findings with the Biostar NM70I-847 and see if it can become a good HTPC board or not.

I appreciate that you are spending the money and time to get some results for this community.

Thanx... Smile

Could you try OpenElec on it, and see if it works?

If that aftermarket fan does a nice job at cooling it off and keeping quiet, this is definitely a nice option - especially with the ability to add a GPU. Nice find!

Definitely. I was going to ask the general question (and here is as good a place as any) how OpenELEC runs on Intel 2000 HD graphics since it should be the same as if it were any Sandy Bridge with HD2000.
