low speed on shares in xbmc
#1
Ok, traveling a lot so bought a Synology DS1512+ and put it on a 100/10 isp to share my collection, allowing me to access and stream from any country im in.

Currently in France on a 1mbit line getting about 100kbyte/s down. This should enable me to stream my old .avi-series. However:

Trying with different types of shares in xbmc like nfs/sftp/ftp, it scans items to library. Trying to stream these within xbmc i only get about 0.5mbit, same with all share methods, just little enough so i cant stream .

However, if i connect using eg sftp in Filezilla, it uses all 1mbit and i can open XBMC and stream the file from my local computer while Filezilla downloads it.

It shows clear on network monitor that when I start downloading from filezilla, network using is doubled compared to sftp/nfs/ftp within xbmc.

My conclusion is that xbmc cuts my speed in half regardless of sharing method, just cant think of why or how?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

moved to another isp with 10mbit and tried some 720p and got some different speeds, will try with some more isp's to see if it makes any sense or if its just my comp/server thats causing issues.

mozilla sftp:

1400kbs

xbmc ftp:

900-1000kbs

xbmc sftp:

2-400kbs (buffers)

xbmc nfs:

3-600 kbs (buffers)
