[XBMCbuntu] Incorrectly detected RAM
#1
Hello,

i installed xbmcbuntu 11.0 on my new htpc (i3 + asus p8z77-m + 2x4GB RAM). After some hours of installation (hdmi cable problem, wifi wpa, etc) i finalised and spotted, that linux detected my RAM incorrectly:
Code:
root@xbmcnas:/proc# cat meminfo
MemTotal:        3302372 kB
MemFree:         2788836 kB

Where is error and how to solve it ? Windows 7 test installation works with 8G RAM correctly.
Thanks.

Welcome to forums

There's no error - you installed a 32bit kernel and as such its limited to 4GB like every 32bit kernel.

The rest of the memory is being used by system so you only get 3.3GB total which is fine on a 32bit system.

You will have to reinstall and select a 64bit (x64_x86) kernel on the installer One of the last parts of the installer before grub install and such.

However in xbmc you will never even come close to using 2GB never mind 4GB

Thanks for answer, i forgot about that limitation. I will check installer again, because i know, i didnt spot any selection about 32/64b kernel.

there is no 64bit xbmcbuntu. You'll have install 64bit ubuntu and then xbmc on top.
