Choppy video
#1
Hi all.

Looking for some help getting my xbmc running right.

I have had it setup since yesterday (been using it for years on a different machines) but all my video playback is choppy and will randomly freeze.

The majority of what i am watching is SD tv shows and they play fine in WMP.

My system is a Foxconn cinema II deluxe mobo, Athlon II x4 630 CPU, 12GB DDR3.

I am currently using the on board graphics which is the ATI radeon HD 4200, this is only until my new card arrives.

I don't know if i am missing something but xbmc has always worked for me before even with low spec machines.

Screen shot below Smile
Cheers

Have update the latest AMD driver from here- AMD Driver Autodetect ? You need to enable DXVA2 in XBMC too....

>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I'm not sure how you connected your system. Have you select the correct audio output as shown below?

or try the settings below-

My PC is connected via DVI cable and then to my sorrund sound system.

Would audio setting affect video playback?

Thanks

Yes, wrong audio output can cause choppy playback....

are you streaming from internet or network share
and do they play from local harddrive okay ?
that pixelation would appear to be bad network connection
almost like playing through a a poor wireless signal

and yes, when playing a file, change the audio settings until you get something that'll play and make it default

Thanks for the help guys, still getting choppy video.

I have been through the audio with no change.

All my video is stored locally on the same pc as xbmc so network shouldn't be an issue.

Had a look at CPU usage and it isn't going above 10% and that's with other programs running as well as xbmc.

That looks like artefacts from DXVA2 to me.

Have you tried disabling DXVA2 hardware acceleration and setting the Render method to Software.

AMD should work fine with DXVA2 enabled and Auto detect as Render method....

You can try a couple more things below-

-Disable everything in CCC Video/Quality other than "Enforce Smooth Video Playback"
-Enable DXVA2 and select Auto detect as Render method and disable everything else in XBMC system/video/playback
-Disable "Use fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen" in XBMC system/system/video output
-Select "Balanced" power option in Windows control panel

I know AMD should work ok with DXVA2, but that doesn't mean there can't be a driver issue on that particular system.
