Thanks for the effort you've put in to this. If no-one else sorts it first (it's probably a simple fix) I'll look at it as soon as I'm back in the office.

If anyone would like to test the fix please do the following:
1. Install RC3 from http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/
2. Grab XBMC-mmfix.exe from http://swarchive.ratsauce.co.uk/XBMC/XBMC-mmfix.exe and copy it into your C:\Program Files\XBMC directory (or wherever XBMC is installed).
3. Run XBMC-mmfix.exe and see if the volume buttons now work properly
NB my file XBMC-mmfix.exe is a fixed version of XBMC.exe not an installer. It's a different size (26MB) to the normal XBMC.exe because it has debug info in it.

Assuming nothing breaks the fix will be merged into the Frodo release, though this has to be done by the release manager.

The only real issue I've found is that the rotary volume control on the side of my notebook brings up PVR error message. I have to switch to the desktop, adjust the volume with the control, then flip back to XBMC...
