Solved XBMC won't start with Frodo
#1
Hi,

I successfully installed XBMCbuntu Frodo 12 R2 (Intel - NVIDIA) on my HTPC.

Processor: Intel® Core™ 3rd-gen i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Processor stepping: 00030699 00000012
Cache size: 64kbx4 / 256kbx4 / 8192kb
Memory size: 12288 MB DDR3 / 133 MHz / Dual channel
Channel A: XMM1 2048MB / XMM2 4096MB
Channel B: XMM3 2048MB / XMM4 4096MB
System BIOS: FOR_715.ROM v7.15 (AMI 7.15, 7/2/2012).

Display Adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7770 - ATI Display adapter (0x683D)

My HTPC is currently hooked up to my Samsung LED 55-inch TV.

When I try to start xbmc, I get the following error:

:~$ xbmc
Code:
/usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default

As far as I can tell, it is having issues picking up my res from my graphics card; I also tried seeing if I can watch something on YouTube, there I can see video correctly, but I'm having issues with sound playing back. So as far as I can tell, my sound card and graphics card aren't setup correctly.

Here is what I see in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

:~$: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

:~$: grep '(EE)' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Code:
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.

[     2.957] (EE) Failed to load module "ati" (module does not exist, 0)

[     2.963] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOBLANK: Invalid argument
[     3.064] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOBLANK: Invalid argument

I even tried downloading "fglrx" from Synaptic package manager, and when I ran the commands above, I had the lastest version installed at the time (2:9.000-0ubuntu3).

Any input on how I can get this to work would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Shouldn't you be trying the AMD iso instead of the intel-nvidia one? ( I believe the AMD/Intel-Nvidia distinction relates to your graphics card not your CPU or motherboard chipset, although if I am worng someone please tell me!)

Having said that there are a LOT of similar threads about the XBMCbuntu frodo RC2 isos.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

Thanks nickr, I will try that later today. I was checking the wiki earlier for that and couldn't find a definite answer. I thought it related to processor rather than graphics card.

Thanks.

You seemed to have successfully installed the WRONG ISO for your system... You Have AMD so grab the AMD iso not Intel-Nvidia

ATI is fglrx

If you grabbed the intel/Nvidia ISO for installing on ATI then you got wrong iso to begin with. Grab the AMD ISO.
