What kind/piece of "non open-source code" should have to be added, to make it working?
I thought, it is some kind of "api-call", or Android "system-function" because even the stock-gallery plays all files.?
I googled around, but couldn't find any explanation or information, why most Player provide HW-Support, but not XBMC.
But as I am technically interested, I would like to understand the problem.

The 'problem' like you've been told already, is that they need to use open source stuff only, so that's what they're doing, MX Player etc. all used closed source stuff.
