UPnP sharing in Frodo - metadata only?
#1
Hi All,

Thanks to Ned Scott for clarifying the UPnP situation in a previous post. Now I just wish to confirm that UPnP is only used for sharing the metadata about films (watched status, progress, etc.) rather than as a transport method for the actual media itself? Is that true?

My setup is two XBMC instances (let's call them A & B) and a central NAS. I wish to make one XBMC instance, A, the server and B the UPnP client. So that way all metadata would stay up to date while actual film/music/etc. is served from the NAS as usual.

Are my assumptions correct? Let me know if I can make my question clearer.

Thanks!

Fred.

Currently the host UPnP XBMC box will also stream using the UPnP A/V protocol. So it would be streaming to the NAS to XBMC A, then from A to B.

Thanks for confirming! I might see what options there are for running XBMC on my NAS (Synology) - this would be a good use case for a headless XBMC server in a UPnP role.
