xbmc freezes while playing video
#1
Hi guys,

I've installed ubuntu minimal with the lubuntu desktop on my dedicated HTPC which runs only the media center. When I upgraded to the new version of xbmc the system freezes entirely after a few minutes into a movie or tv show.

I've followed the guide http://youresuchageek.blogspot.fr while installing since I needed the XVBA. I'm running a AMD A6 system.

Here's the debug log:

Hope to get an answer for the error because it's so irritating Tongue

well... you didn't play any movie in that log, so hard to tell.

But, your audio setup is most probably wrong:
Using speaker layout: 3.1

Seems you are connected directly to a TV, so set to 2.0 and Analog

My system go straight to the xbmc when I turn it on so I should have pasted the xbmc.old.log Undecided My htpc is connected to a Yamaha reciever with a hdmi cabel and from there straight to the tv. I have one center and two front plus my subwoofer. This is why I had 3.1 turned on :-) And analog has to be wrong?

Now I've got the right log (I hope). I did reinstall both ubuntu minimal 12.10 and xbmc frodo from wsnipex's ppa. I even tried to change the audio to analog 2.1, still freezes. Could it be a bug in the new frodo ppa?

Hope to get this fixed, because I want to look at my movies and tv shows! Big Grin

Thanks in advance. Big Grin

That is strange, is it my reciever that's screwed up then? Since I've got 3.1 plugged in?

no, fglrx can only do 2 real channels. To have surround, you must use passthrough - AC3 and DTS ONLY, NO HD audio

I tried passthrough also, but still freezes :-\ This didn't happen when I used your pre-frodo ppa and I'm positive that everything is installed correctly :-)

mv ~/.xbmc ~./xbmc.bak

try again without installing any addons and with default Skin.

From the log you posted, I can't see where is hangs or what could be the issue.
