Ah.. I didn't use the standard installer for mine. Well yeah ssh in and edit xorg.conf to output to the one you need.
There looks like there's a fair bit of info in the openelec wiki regarding configuring xorg.conf. you can also use info from other sources as openelec is a Linux distro and uses the same programs as Ubuntu etc..

I ended up putting a new screen in for $50. The laptop works well with Openelec intel 64 bit image. Live HD TV, and 1080P mkv's play pretty good. I actually like the color output/saturation better than my main box which is a Mac mini with AMD graphics.
