I've done some searches (both on the forums and on the main website) and I haven't found a good answer so apologies if i've missed it.

How long should updating libraries take? Are we talking minutes or hours/days?
Is there anyway to see the progress?

depents on how big your library is,
if it's local or a slow or fast network.

but yes you should see some kind of progress bar,
at least that's what i see when i start up xbmc and the library get's updated.

also it depents if you got your library structure build decent.
like described in the wiki.
music library can take a while exspecially when badly tagged

Can you give me some aprox or example times with sizes of library?

I see a lot of content that isn't being picked up in the library but is there in files. I'm wondering if the process is ongoing in the background or if it just failed

If you don't enable the "Hide progress of library updates" option, then you should see a progress bar.

I had it hidden, i turned it off so it's not hidden. I go into videos-> library and i press c on movies and it shows as "stop scanning." Can I assume it's still updating the library then? If so, where am I supposed to see the update progress bar?
