1. No, use channel 1
2. No, Sorry... There are two ways to use PTVL. short term or long term.... Short term, channels are updated when you start PTVL. Long term (Settop Box mode), channels update while PTVL is running.
3. If you have bandwidth limits, this probably isn't the program for you. Stick to local media, and avoid streaming...
I appreciate the suggestions, unfortunately I'm not interested in those ideas...
I can set up channel 1 with a local video on repeat. That won't be a problem and get around my issue. I do have a high bandwidth cap and am able to handle all of my streaming for the month easily and more (I am a cord cutter and consume all my media via streaming) but leaving a HD channel streaming 24/7 will certainly push me over the limit quickly.
How I am approaching PTVL is like a set top box replacement. I have it currently setup so my harmony remote starts PTVL when I power on and when I power off it restarts XBMC. This way XBMC is running and can do various things over night.
My main objective to leaving PTVL on all the time is so that it does all of its channel updates as required and when I turn on the TV I don't have to wait on it to do its thing before I can start jumping around in the channel list. My old SA set top box had sleep mode feature that allowed it to still accept updates when turned off as well, so I was hoping to mimic that. For now I can make it just tune back into my local video channel 1 at restart.
