Opinions, improvements, and criticism welcome, as always.... This is my first skin for PTVL, so I'm almost sure there will be issues or mistakes that I haven't noticed. Feel free to point them out to me so I can correct them. Smile

Good work. I've been looking for a minimalist skin for a while.

I have a few suggestions/comments for your consideration.

1) There is a black bar on the right hand side which looks strange.
2) Do the icons up top have any function? If they are purely aesthetic you might consider removing them to further simplify the skin and give more room for the show description.
3) In that same vein perhaps there is a way to streamline the PTVL logo, "home" text, "all channels" text, and "tv guide" text. For my personal taste I would consider removing "home", "all channels", and "tv guide" altogether, and perhaps moving the PTVL logo (in white) down to where "All Channels" and "----" currently reside. That would free up the entire top for show descriptions.
4) I LOVE the alternating channel colors from light blue to darker blue. Nice touch.

Again, my suggestions are based primarily off my personal tastes so take them as you will. Overall it looks good. Keep up the good work. Smile

Tromy,

This is such excellent work. I am still in search of those logos, really want something like what you have!

I believe those are the donor specific logos.

Thanks for the comments Azrael...

1) That is meant to be a shadow, but I've made it far too dark. It needs to be considerably lighter, and I will fix that.

2) The icons are 'fluff', they are there as this is meant to mimic the real Sky EPG here in the UK.

3) Same as above, it's all 'fluff' just to keep it in-line with the mimic job I was trying to achieve.

I like your ideas, though, and I think I'll make an alternative skin with your changes made to it. I want to keep this skin as close to it's real life inspiration as possible.

4) Thanks, initially I didn't have it set up like that, but then I was looking at it and it just... it didn't 'pop out', so I switched to the alternating colours. Smile

Also, for reference, this is what I've tried to mimic:

Hi,

I asked the below about 200 posts back, but it got lost in the deluge of another conversation. Can anyone confirm whether I can get live TV channels in PTVL using a PCTV USB DVB/S2 stick? Argus is the backend and all up and running lovely using the Kodi plugin for Live TV.

"I think the answer to this is 'no' but I asked autotune to detect Live TV (I have ArgusTV and the XBMC plug-in running against a PCTV DVB/S2 USB Stick) but I got no live channels listed at all..."

Thanks...

Probably been mentioned before but this thread seriously needs a sub-forum. I've seen a lot of questions get lost due to sheer numbers.

The answer is YES and is explained in the first 3 posts. That's more likly the reason you didnt get a response. Set up your PVR backend to the PVR frontend in Kodi, then PTVL will autotune them fine. If you can see channels in the default kodi PVR, then you can get them easily into PTVL.

For me, every time ptvl updates even a single channel (which is just about every time I start it), artwork spooler runs for over 20 min and during that time ptvl can not exit. It gets stuck on the exiting page with the playback screen dimmed (i guess there is a blue screen overlay). It eventually exits after 20 min when the spooler is done if I have that much patience. There is no way to prevent it other than hard rebooting the box.

Do you have system cache enabled? Are you running v.0.5.9

I find it incredibly unlikely that the latest version runs that long.

Would love to see a log consistently showing a 20min spool runtime...

If PTVL ever takes that long, something is obviously wrong.

My setup has 600+ Channels of all chtypes, set to Unlimited media, find missing info enabled. Total parse time usually under 20mins (Set to background mode on ) wait is unnoticeable. Artwork Spooler after first run takes 17s! First run is under 10m...

If your setup has a lot of livetv channels or local media that doesn't have locally stored artwork, disable find missing info and art.

I'm 99% certain that many of the issues experienced are due to improper configurations. V.0.5.9 should not take long to spool artwork. Provide a log and prove me wrong...

I am at work right now so I can't provide a log but will once I get home tonight.

However to answer your questions, I will say that I've used the same custom set up since the first version of PTVL and this has never been an issue. In fact, I went back to 5.7F on one of my three installations and the problems were fixed.

On 5.7F everything runs smooth and the artwork spooling worked as expected (ie spooling much quicker with each run)

Just spitballing, but there is a bug with the way interleaved channels artwork is handled, by which I mean internet channels (YouTube for example) do not display artwork when they are interleaved into local content channels--perhaps that is what's causing the increased spool times?

Obviously I have system caching enabled and i am running 5.9...I wouldn't bother you with bugs about old code.

Like I said I'll post a log after I get home tonight.

Log as promised:

To make sure this was a fair test I reloaded a fresh Ubuntu install, then a fresh Kodi install, then finally PTVL from the repo. Confluence skin. PTVL skin. Set the max vid number to 50.

This warning appeared throughout and as I had mentioned previously I think this may have something to do with the issue, but then again I may be wrong.

Hey Luna, I was wondering if since Google Code is closing You would consider moving the community list to github?

Just a suggestion.
Any ETA for the DVR feature?

Hey Luna, I'm having an issue where, randomly, the "Playback Failed #/20" message pops up and stays up, but the video file is playing perfectly fine. The only way to remove the message is to change the channel and then switch back.

I'm trying to get a debug log, but it's decided that since I actually want it to do this, it doesn't want too, now. I'll continue to try and get a debug log within the next 24 hours, but until then I thought I'd air my issue in case yourself or another user comes across it and can get a debug log before I do.

It was fixed, and will be included in next update... no ETA ATM.
