[OLD/CLOSED] PseudoTV Live - Set-Top box solution

I never had any problems with it in the past (even though I got the reminder to turn it off) but now it insists I turn it off and won't continue. However, I altered the script to ignore this setting and my updated PseudoTV Live seems to still run as I expect.

My kids like to watch some of their TV shows on continuous so it would be a real hassle to keep switching it on and off. I wondered if the issue was with features I possibly don't use? Checked the threads and couldn't really find anything.

Cheers in advance

I would like to know the answer to this as well.

I'm loving almost everything about this new evolved PTV, except for one thing.. Every time I hit stop, I get a popup of "Playback Failed 1/5", it counts to 5, and then launches right back into PTVL. Occasionally after once or twice of this, the info panel gets stuck open. If I use the back button to get the "do you want to exit PTV?" dialog, then it seems to shut down cleanly. This also often leads to it thinking it is still running after it does finally shut down when I try to edit the channels.

you failed to read the suggested material and not use the back button.
but I also have some new playback failed popus that begun when the latest version (0.6.1c) was released (using strm files that are in the library)

You mean the stop button, right? It's using the stop button when in PTVL that causes it to say "PTVL is already running" if you try and launch it again. It's hard habit to break though - I still can't seem to impress upon my household to not do it..
Has anyone ever run into an issue adding TED talks channel and having only 1 episode show repeated forever?
I used numerous different channel types and still unable to get pseudo to pull the entire list of TED talks.
That's how TED talks work. They keep playing the same talk over and over until you really get it. Then you move onto the next one.

Straight from the readme

Quote:There are only a few things you need to know in order to control everything. First of all, the Stop button
('X') stops the video and exits the script. You may also press the Previous Menu ('Escape') button to do
this (don't worry, it will prompt you to verify first)

And if I am to listen to your suggestion, then I will NEVER exit PTVL as the post you quoted stated, hitting stop brings up the playback failed error, and launches right back into PTVL.

LOL sorry had to laugh...

To Thor- "OMG this is happening to you as well? I figured I was the only one since no one else was mentioning it, and it was probably something to do with having a fancy logo for each channel in the EPG, and having 100 or so channels of tons of local media that it was loading artwork for each time. "

Yea thats me also, Ive got custom logos for all, and al else like you described. after I discovered that the porgram was actualy digging deep, I went in and edited all my channels to 250 or under. I had alot with 500 or more resulting in long loading of the artwork, I was loading artwork before I did this it took about 360 sec to complete, all the time Im locked into the start channel if I try to navigate before the artwork completes its spool, I get the info overlay perma up which requires a program shutdown and system flush to reload. Now after changing the max numbers to 250 or under the artspool load time is greatly reduced to 120 secs. much more manageable, I would love to be able to disable this spool, as im slow to make changes to my over all library, and I figure once its got the inital artwok loaded, Id like to control more of when it spools... but i dont really know whats happening with the spool so Ill resign to be VERY happy with the loading time reduction to 120 sec Smile

Anyway, thanks again to everyones efforts for this program. very happy with the current version

That is not true. It will prompt and refuse to start every single time until you either do as it says or alter the script to bypass it.

Wait, you mean this isn't intended behavior? Should I turn the auto next back on and submit a log as well, because I encountered this as well and assumed it was intended behavior. Also I don't know if it matters but because it seems some of us are getting this as a non-negotiable prompt and others can apparently pass through I should mention that I had the auto next for video off and the auto next for music on. Not educated enough to know if that is important or not, but I can submit a log if it helps to have multiple logs of the behavior.

Also, still having PseudoTV Live stop and save threads for seemingly no reason. Not sure why it' happening but it has been ruining my enjoyment to suddenly have everything spontenaiously exit on me and then for everything to halt while it saves threads...
I was incorrect

It happens. I've been wrong plenty of times! Big Grin

Not sure how to describe this next thing I'm noticing so please bear with me. Have already uploaded logs and the behavior was present there too but I disregarded it in favor of trying to track down the reason why the program was randomly ending itself. I've been having a fairly good run this time though, since I disabled plugin channels so I will be trying to track that down from there later on by disabling video plugins one at a time until I find out which one seems to be a trigger.

Now for the behavior...

I tune to a channel and the program displays a info header about the show playing, after a few moments it disappears unless caused to reappear by pressing the info button. My show will play until maybe about three quarters finished and then a seemingly random popup window will appear with a "." in the info box. The show will end and a commercial from local directory will play. An info box will again display while the commercial is playing, telling me info about the next show. Several seconds later the show itself will start, without any info box displaying.

This behavior also occurs with trailers and with station ids. Can be very annoying with trailers as sometimes they will display far longer than usual seeming and will 'hold me there stuck' because I cannot usually change channels until the info box goes away. Is this considered standard behavior?

Examples:

The . On second glance it appears the dot is a single "
Image

Infobox displaying early--in this case during the commercial
Image

Another example of an empty box, this one displaying over a trailer

If it is considered standard behavior, I'm inclined to make another feature request--this time asking if it would be possible to optionally disable the info box unless specifically called by the user changing channels or selecting the info button. Maybe creating an exception for music video channels, as that'd be a situation where I could see the user wishing to see the name of the artists and any information about the song?

Would appreciate knowing if I'm the only one with these issues or if others are also experiencing them. Am willing to post a log (in which case I'll copy this post and paste it in the bugs thread.) but I don't know that anything has really changed between my last log posted. Also the skin I am using within PseudoTV Live is Sky and the theme I am using in Kodi is Quartz.

EDIT: One more question, regarding the way PseudoTV Live handles the donor settings. Is it normal for the donor page to 'lose' the download logos options and the autotune options to grey out donor options unless I specifically activate my donor status before going on to autotune? The username and password are still in the box, but it doesn't seem to be taking effect unless I reconfirm my status.

The reason I ask is it occurs to me that it could be the reason I'm getting the sudden shutdown of the program after it has been running for a while could be the time out on my activation status causing the donor only streams to malfunction.
