Tell me, those folks that have tried HEVC: is there any noticeable difference in quality on a normal TV? I can't see how there can be since you'd have to downscale (unless you go for same size file as H.264 but higher bitrate because of the greater compression, I suppose).

I've been following their own threads on the doom9 site and it doesn't seem like it's really ready yet.
Even if you get the same file size as an x264 encode with an x265 encode it's not positive that your x265 encode will look better.

It's still being worked on, there are things being fixed so you just pretty much have to wait for bugs to be ironed out in the encoding process. It makes more sense when you read the thread and hear their explanations, I can't explain it well myself.
