I am wondering if anyone can clarify how XBMC handles episodes of a television series that are not part of a regular series or “Specials” and how to name and store them.

Best example I can give of this is the Starz series Spartacus where a 6 episode prequel was introduce after the first season and every season has a unique name. The Unique naming convention of each of the season doesn't seem to cause that much of a problem since it looks like it is being ignored. But the Prequel or the “Special(s)” are just ignored by XBMC.

Another example of this is Battlestar Galactica (2003) where the 2 hour miniseries and other specials are not recognized.

Typically, specials are treated as season 0, regardless of the year in which they aired:

Spartacus S00E01.avi
:
Spartacus S00E06.avi
