[Solved] Asrock ION 330 1080p Frame Rate/Drops w/ Frodo 12.2
#1
Hey guys, I recently upgraded to a TV that supports 1080p, so have been watching more 1080p movies. Most the time my trusty old ASROCK ION 330 handles them without difficulty, but lately I've been noticing more and more TV shows that it's choking on. The framerate drops (20 fps or so), and the dropped frame counter builds. I've tried turning on/off the option to match display refresh rate to video (but usually keep that setting off.

Some 1080p movies play fine, some are choppy.

Here is my log file: http://paste.ubuntu.com/5994096/

System: Asrock ION 330
Version: XBMCBuntu Live w/ Frodo 12.2

If anyone would like to test on their setup, here is a sample file

Out of curiosity, I ran MediaInfo on two 1080p videos. One good, one bad.

First, the bad file: (Plays ~ 20fps, drops frames)

Are you sure, it was not the other way around?
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Yeah, I'm positive. That's why I'm so surprised by it. I would expect the higher bitrate video (the Departed in this example) to be harder for it to decode.

Here is a link to a sample file (I hope splitting the MKV doesn't affect it).

Tested the sample on my vdpau installation and it worked fine. Can you play it again and just post the log with this video?

You might try:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-frodo
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-bin
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo reboot

Recheck your settings after having done so.

So, tested my sample again, and same results, frame drops.

I then ran your scripts, and trie again. Frame drops are fixed. That did it! What did we do?

We installed a version with a new vdpau engine and 10.000 lines of codes of other fixes done by fernetmenta. A lot of this work will enter gotham - so set it to solved.
