All,
I have just been informed by Intel (sylvia_intel @ intel forum) that the BIOS can be reset without the need to remove the motherboard to disconnect the CMOS battery!!!!
Instead of removing the jumper also used for the regular BIOS recovery process, move the jumper to pins 2-3 (as opposed to normal 1-2).
Function Jumper setting Configuration
------------ ---------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Normal 1-2 The BIOS uses current configuration settings and passwords for booting
Configure 2-3 After the POST runs, Setup runs automatically. The maintenance menu is displayed. Note that this Configure mode is
the only way to clear the BIOS/CMOS settings. Press F9 while in Configure mode to restore default values
Recovery none The BIOS attempts to recover the BIOS configuration using a recovery CD or flash drive
