Yeah in my case I work in IT every day and sometimes (and particularly in this case) I just wanted to buy an appliance that I dont/cant "mess with" too much, as I already have very little time at home to spend with the family or doing all the other things I want to do (like gaming, building PCs, coding/development, watching TV/movies etc). Building and configuring my own NAS server would be yet another distraction. Perhaps another time in my life I would enjoy the challenge and experience but at this time, i just want a hands off appliance All approaches are valid though and yes as you say, the cheapest option would be for dezmick to just share the drives from his big PC and not have to buy anything
