I can check if returning fail from vc_cec_set_passive stops the notification, and then make hdmi_ignore_cec cause that to happen.

Thanks - I opened an issue on the Pulse Eight github but you're probably right that there may not be anything for them to change.

With regards to the setting of the hdmi_ignore_cec property, I presume it's not actually possible for the Pi to determine if CEC is supported (or not) when HDMI is connected? My monitor has no CEC, so the default position would be to ignore CEC in my case.
