Getting passthough working with paplayer/dvdplayer is something I am planning.

Add hdmi_stream_channels=1 to config.txt and that should fix passthrough.
AC3 was working fine for me but DTS was very slow.

To get ac3 and dts passthrough working from paplayer/dvdplater you want these in config.txt:

no_hdmi_resample=1

Report back if passthrough works with dvdplayer, and whether this causes any issues with omxplayer.
