Hi there,
Firstly apologies in advance if this has been asked elsewhere - I've had a hunt around and not found anything...
Anyway I'm getting ready to embark on ripping all my DVDs/BR's into a centralised XBMC setup with a number of endpoints, and central SQL and NAS storage to host the data.
As I'm starting at the beginning I'd like to kick off doing it the right way. My question is this:
How do you control the sort order of TV shows?
I know with movies there is the <sorttitle> tag which I'll be setting on all films (so I can group (for example) all Bond movies together and in the correct order) - an example tag I plan to use would be "Bond1962-021" Which would be assigned to "Casino Royale" (breaking it down it's sortname, year of first movie*, number of film in that sequence).
*This is so I can reuse titles and keep the order right by changing the year of the first movie, eg "Spiderman2002-001" would be the first of the Sam Raimi-directed spiderman films while "Spiderman2012-001" is the more recent one.
As far as I can tell though that same tag is not available for TV shows (which strikes me as very odd).
A good example here would be the various Star Trek shows - the correct order would be:
Star Trek
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: Voyager
Enterprise
but if it sorts purely by title instead you would get:
Enterprise
(lots of other shows)
Star Trek
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Voyager
The same could be said for "Ashes to Ashes", which was a sequel to "Life on Mars" or "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel".
I realise its a fairly small thing but I'm absolutely anal enough that it will really bother me... so what is the right way to do it?
Cheers
