Some googling found a line here http://geeklingo.net/intel-nuc-dn2820fyk...ia-centre/ that mentioned having issues until removing the Win 8.1 own drivers and reinstalling Intels own.
I thought I had installed them from the Intel bundle, but sure it's something else to try tomorrow.
