I would have to disagree with you on this one.
I downloaded the two 1080p files among the test files you referred to - for both the playback is not very smooth and many frames are dropped at the beginning when there is a lot of camera movement displayed (press o to check that out during playback). The rest of the file is fine as it's a more steady picture.
I didn't try the 720p files.
I'm running Openelec Beta1, what are you running?
