Edit: You mean the deinterlace issue where it only doesn't deinterlace one obscure (relatively for mea nyway) format or does it not deinterlace anything?
The de-interlacing options are grayed out during video playback. I believe someone had said that the options should be grayed out if MPEG-2 is hardware decoded and that hardware decoding should de-interlace on its own. However I guess we are not sure if the Fire TV is actually doing hardware decoding of MPEG-2 or if this is some sort of bug.
One option I am considering is buying a tv tuner that streams h.264 which should work fine. That was covered in one of the 5 trillion posts in this thread.

It's an option at least. I'll strongly consider it if we can't get deinterlacing worked out in the next couple of months.
