D3DERR_DEVICEHUNG, not due to video playback...
#1
First, here are my specs:
CPU: G3220 Intel Pentium
MOBO: Asrock H81M-ITX
RAM: Gskill Ripjaws, 4gb, 2x2
Windows 8.1 64bit (This was also an issue on Win 7 64bit)
No graphics card, using integrated graphics
XBMC ver: Frodo 12.3 Frodo from xbmc download page

Debug Log: http://pastebin.com/NAEbXEDi

So, here is the problem. While some on this board have had issue with black screen/freeze on video playback (as per the stickied thread in this subforum), my issue is at random, but usually while idling at a menu or navigating a menu within XBMC. Typically, at random the screen will freeze or turn black, but does not immediately crash xbmc, as I can still here navigation sounds/clicks. I am able to Alt-tab out of the fullscreen window and close down xbmc either by task manager or just right clicking the icon on the task bar. If I let the black or frozen screen sit it eventually will crash and windows will do the typical searching for a solution process. After multiple reviews of the debug log (attached above) it appears to be a direct3d issue, as follows:

18:04:53 T:4276 DEBUG: CRenderSystemDX:TongueresentRenderImpl - Present failed. 88760874 - D3DERR_DEVICEHUNG (Hardware adapter reset by OS)
18:04:53 T:4276 DEBUG: Keyboard: scancode: 4d, sym: 0113, unicode: 0000, modifier: 0

18:04:53 T:4276 ERROR: D3DERR_DEVICEHUNG
18:04:53 T:4276 DEBUG: D3DERR_DEVICELOST

First, I have made sure the system is not overheating, everything is within normal acceptable ranges there and did all the hardware diagnostics (dxdiag, memtest, hdd testing etc) - all of which are coming back normal. The computer runs fine otherwise, so I don''t know what is causing the problem. I am trying to use the system for primarily playing emulator/retro games and music across my local network, if that is necessary info. All emulated systems run fine outside of XBMC, but I cannot even get to adding them in XBMC as a crash occurs typically before I can get to that point. I have tried tweaking settings within XBMCs settings, but no change in results. I have also gone as far as re-installing windows 8.1 fresh, trying it on windows 7 and re-installing XBMC multiple times, which hasn't changed anything. The crash can occur in few seconds after opening the program or minutes later.

I did search and find a few threads regarding similar problems, but nothing conclusive...

If anyone could help me at least try and find the culprit or solution, I am completely out of ideas. Thanks in advance!
