And yes, it does work for me.
That's what I was afraid of, I have removed that screw already and "sudo crossystem" brings back the firmware protection as on.
Guess I'll keep trying things...
Update....
I have figured it out. It turns out that some of the solder on the pad got flattened by the screw causing it to short across the two pads. I managed to just scrape it off with my fingernail. Now its showing 0's and I can successfully set my boot options.
