I am searching around but can't find new bios for asus chromebox Smile

I'm adding it as an option to the script right now Smile

If you've already installed OpenELEC (or anything else) in a standalone configuration, the easily way to flash the updated firmware will be via ChromiumOS, the open-source version of ChromeOS. Download the latest x86 version from here: http://chromium.arnoldthebat.co.uk/

then just download/run the script like you would in ChromeOS

Hi Matt, on the wiki page the instructions say to download the AMD64os build and here you say to download the X86 version. Which one do I need to restore mine back to stock?

X86 version. The chromebox isn't AMD.

Thanks, that's what I thought but wanted to be sure.

which one should i download? This? OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-4.2.1

correct. If you download the .tar.gz, you need to unzip it, then run the 'create_installstick' utility; if you download the .img.gz, you need to unzip it, then write the image to USB using a tool like Win32diskimager
Thanks. Got it working. Also finally figured out how to properly setup Harmony One with HP MCE remote. Both ASUS boxes are now sharing the database. I'm coming from WDTV SMP and this setup is a clear winner.

It is amd64 architecture though. That is a generic term to cover 64 bit intel/amd processors.
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

that post you quoted is *way* out of date; the wiki says to just re-run the script, or if running OpenELEC, to use the standalone firmware updater script from the OP.

x86_64 and AMD64 are synonymous, as the 64-bit extensions to the x86 instruction set were (originally) developed by AMD. OpenELEC (and most of linux) uses the former notation, but the ChromiumOS builds are labeled with the latter.

Ok, again this is getting way beyond my skill level, I made a USB with the x86 image today but have not used it yet. I don't see anything that says 64 bit on the x86 file so should I make another from the AMD 64 image?
Sorry for the newby questions and thanka again, Randy

The odd thing is it was running for quite some time with the boot screen up while I was making another bootable usb on my laptop but shortly after I rebooted into OpenELEC/XBMC it shut down and once again no light, no power...nothing. BTW when I was monitoring the temp the other day it said it was 137 degrees F not C if that makes a difference? I wish I could narrow this down to a replaceable component and not junk the whole box. Sad
Again, your help is appreciated. Thanks

137°F isn't a problem at all, so don't think we're dealing with a thermal protection issue. I'd reload the stock firmware / ChromeOS (see wiki) and see if it misbehaves there. If so, have the box replaced under warranty.

Trying to reload the stock firmware as you suggested above so I can decide if my chromebox is defective or not.

Just ordered one today to try out (and compare with Ortek, which I've been using). It's just $14.95 on Amazon today.
