On OpenElec, though, there could be a solution by forcing a manual copy of the TV's EDID. I've done that on my system to resolve another issue (slightly incorrect calculated PAR) but one side effect is Kodi always knows what the TV supports even if it's not powered on.
true, though that's a slightly more advanced solution, and wanted to first make sure it's not an issue with using the headless firmware
