Is there info on how to get it to boot from a USB stick and how to build a ChromeOS stick if it is different than a recovery stick built using the Google tool?
since you did a standalone setup, you can't reinstall ChromeOS unless you first re-flash your stock firmware (which you backed up during the standalone setup). If you want to do that, and then do a dual boot setup, there are instructions on the wiki to do so.
but since you already have the standalone setup, I'd just install OpenELEC like you planned. If you tried two different keyboards and neither worked, I'd be curious to know the model #s. And if you're not getting the 'press ESC' text at all, you should just create a fresh installer (info on wiki).
But either way, you need to boot from a USB stick and need a working keyboard to do that. Once you have that, either path should be straightforward.
