I can't be sure if I'm dreaming but OpenElec 5.0.2 or whatever the right designation for today's release seems to have fixed the only problem I still had.
After going with just software decoding of Video everything was playing great except for my rip of The Dark Night but now that plays well too. I maybe still see like one micro stutter every 15 minutes or so but it's so sublime I can easily miss it... it's actually really great and I'm so overjoyed.
(I should look into the deinterlace setting mentioned above too... sounds interesting.)
